What is IP?

" Internet Protocol (Internet Protocol)", meaning the IP number; computer, tablet, smartphone etc. is a unique string of numbers combined with dots that identifies your device. Just as your physical home address allows people to know where to send your cargo, IP addresses identify computers and devices and allow them to communicate with each other.

For example, the IP address of 145.121.230.19 is the IP address of the server where our what-is-my-ip.org site is located.

Via your IP address, you can identify your device's location and distinguish it from many other devices.

IP address querying allows you to determine the geographic location of any IP address. Inquiry you; shows the city, region, zip code, country name, ISP and time zone. This data is used by various institutions to find the exact owner of any IPv4 or IPv6 address.

People often think that querying an IP address will find the personal address of the user assigned to that IP. But this is absolutely not true. At best, you can find out the city where the IP user is located .

How Can I Find My Own IP Address?

1. Finding IP Address Using Command Prompt

windows 

1. Start command prompt ( press Windows + R keys at the same time and type “CMD” in the field that opens and press “Enter”).
2. Enter the ipconfig command.

Your IP address is shown in the command output as your IPv4 address.

macOS

1. Open System Preferences.
2. Select the network panel.
3. Select your connection and click the Advanced button.
4. Click the TCP/IP tab to view your IP address.

iOS

1. Choose settings.
2. Tap on WiFi Network.
3. Tap the network connection.

Your IP address will be displayed on this page.

Android

1. Select Apps > Settings > Wireless & networks.
2. Select the network you are currently using.

The IP address and other network information will be displayed.

2. Finding an IP Address Using Google

If you do a Google search for " what is my IP " you can view your public IP address at the top of the page.

You can also use sites other than Google to find out your IP address.

Sites like us what-is-my-ip.org and IPLocation, like Google, not only show your IP address, but go even further and show your ISP and location.

Finding Someone Else's IP Address

If you want to know someone else's IP address, there are different ways to learn IP address . But one of the simplest ways is to use command prompt on Windows devices. All you have to do is open the command prompt ( press the Windows + R keys simultaneously and type “ CMD ” in the opened field and press “ Enter ”) and type “ping” “the address of the website you want to monitor ” on the  command screen and press enter. For example, if you want to know the IP address of Google, type "ping www.google.com" and press enter. Here the IP address of www.google.com appears.

If you want to know the IP address of a person on Facebook, you can use the “ NetSat ” command. First of all, invite the person whose IP address you want to know to the chat, open the command prompt while the chat is open and type the command "netstat –an" . This way you can get the IP address of each connection established.

How to Change IP Address?

1. Changing IP via Modem

If you are not using a static IP, you can get a new IP address by unplugging your internet modem, waiting a few minutes, then plugging it back in. When you reconnect, your ISP assigns you a new IP address.

This method is not guaranteed to work, your ISP may give you the same IP address again. The longer you unplug your modem, the higher the chance that your IP address will change. If unplugging for a few minutes doesn't change your IP, you might consider unplugging your modem all night.

Your ISP must use dynamic IP addresses for this method to work.

2. Changing IP via Computer

There are many ways to change your IP address on a computer. The most popular of these ways is Virtual Private Network ( Virtual Private Network ), namely VPN . VPN encrypts your internet connection and routes through a server at a location of your choosing. Websites, online services, and other devices on the web only see the VPN server's IP address, not your real IP address.

VPNs are useful for unblocking regionally locked content as a result of restrictions imposed by countries as a result of some legal action (such as Wikipedia or Twitter in our country) and bypassing censorship in schools, offices or in countries such as China.

If you don't know how to set up a VPN, you can follow these steps:

1. Sign up with a suitable VPN provider.
2. Download the VPN app suitable for your device.
3. Open the VPN app and select a server in your home country, but if you want to access a particular service, make sure to select a server in a country where it will be unblocked.

Your transaction is complete. You now have a different IP address.

3. Change IP in Windows with CMD

Click Start > Run , type cmd and press Enter.

Type ipconfig / release in the command prompt window, press Enter . This action will release the current IP configuration.

Type ipconfig / renew in the prompt window , hit Enter, wait for a while, the DHCP server will assign a new IP address to your computer.

Can Address Be Detected From IP Address?

Your IP address is generally public and can be used by others to find out where you (or your device) are. However, people who learn your IP address cannot learn personal information about you. Although the address says your computer is in a specific city or state; cannot disclose your name, address, phone number or other identifying information.

If finding an address from an IP address is a very important issue for you, you need to find out the exact physical address by contacting the ISP that assigned the IP address. This is not possible unless a crime has been committed legally.

What is IP Conflict?

An IP conflict occurs when two or more devices on the same network are assigned the same IP address.

IP conflicts are rare in modern networks. This is because of DHCP ( Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ) , the system routers use to distribute IP addresses . When you connect a new device to your network with DHCP, your router selects an available IP address from the pool of options. The device uses this IP for a while until it needs to get a new IP.

Static, Dynamic and Dedicated IP Number

There are two types of IP addresses, static and dynamic.

Static IP address; It is an unchanging address that is usually used by institutions, servers where websites are hosted, or similar large systems. Once your device is assigned a static IP address, this number usually stays the same until the device is retired or your network architecture changes. Static IP addresses are assigned by Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Dynamic IP addresses are defined as the IP addresses we use in our home networks. It can change and is assigned by Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers as needed. When you disconnect your internet connection, this IP address is allocated to another person.

Dedicated IP A dedicated IP means the website has its own personal address that cannot be shared with anyone. This means you and only you have the right to use this IP address and can access your website from the Web
